French - Modern Languages
Upon successful completion of the Modern Languages Program at Oklahoma City Community College, students will be able to:
- Read in the target language a simple text of 250 to 1000 words on familiar topics
and demonstrate an understanding of the information conveyed. They will be able to comprehend the main ideas and understand most details in the text including description and narration. - Write a simple composition of 80 to 150 words in the target language which communicates facts and ideas, demonstrates originality and creativity with the language, and expresses meaning which would be comprehensible to a proficient speaker.
- Understand 5 to 15 minutes of straightforward discourse in the target language delivered in simple spoken language – on a familiar, predictable topic. They will be able to comprehend the main ideas and understand most factual details in the discourse.
- Converse in the target language with a proficient speaker for 5 to 15 minutes on familiar topics related to daily life. They will be able to sustain the conversation by asking and responding to questions about self, family, personal interests, activities, and other predictable topics.
- Use the language to investigate, explain, and reflect on the relationship between
the practices and perspectives of the cultures studied and make comparisons with their
own.
