Nursing

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, colleges, universities, and testing centers have temporarily closed. In order to best meet the needs of our nursing applicants, the following changes are TEMPORARY for the current applications posted spring 2020:

Schedule a virtual Next Gen ACCUPLACER or TEAS test.  Scores for all placement tests are good for 5 years of the application deadline with exception of ACT - no limit to year taken.

Traditional Pathway (updated 5/6/2020)

  1. Due date extended to Friday, May 29, 2020 at 10:59 p.m. CST via NursingCAS
  2. Next Gen ACCUPLACER Reading minimum score of 250 OR CPT Classic Accuplacer minimum score of 77 are accepted up to 5 years from the new application deadline
  3. Students unable to take the Next Gen ACCUPLACER may use ACT Reading Score of 21 (no limit to the year ACT was taken) for that requirement
  4. Students may earn 2 preference points for OCCC College Prep Math CPMIII minimum score of 10 OR CMPIV minimum score of 70% (up to 5 years from the new application deadline), OR ACT Math Score of 19 (no limit to the year ACT was taken),OR any-college level Math course with a grade of A.
  5. Students taking courses during the pandemic who are unable to test for their state/national certification may upload official documentation of successful completion of the course for preference points. Example CNA, EMT, etc.

Career Ladder Pathway (updated 5/6/2020)

  1. Due date extended  to Friday, June 12, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. noon  CST via OnBase
  2. Next Gen ACCUPLACER Reading minimum score of 250 OR CPT Classic Accuplacer minimum score of 77 are accepted up to 5 years from the new application deadline
  3. Students unable to take the Next Gen ACCUPLACER may use ACT Reading Score of 21 (no limit to the year ACT was taken) for that requirement

  6. The HESI LPN-ADN and HESI EMS-ADN exam is waived
  7. LPN and Paramedic license submission extended to December 31, 2020. Individuals unable to sit for licensure may upload documentation of successful completion of LPN or Paramedic program.

Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) offers a 71-72 credit hour nursing program. Graduates of this program are eligible to apply for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Students successfully completing the program will earn an Associate in Applied Science degree. OCCC offers three nursing track options:

  • Traditional Pathway
  • Career Ladder Pathway for LPN’s and Paramedics
  • Baccalaureate to ADN Accelerated Nurse Pathway for individuals who have a Bachelor’s degree

The OCCC Nursing Program has continued full approval by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing (OBN). The most recent review by OBN was November 2018. The program has continuing accreditation by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), Inc. (3343 Peachtree Road NE, Suite 850, Atlanta GA 30326; phone (404) 975 5000; web site www.acennursing.org. The most recent review by ACEN was February 2014. The next ACEN re-accreditation visit will occur in spring 2022.
