OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma (Feb. 27, 2024) – Oklahoma City Community College has been designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD) through academic year 2027 by the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA).
The Cyber/Information Security Program at OCCC has been a leader in bringing information security education opportunities to our Oklahoma City constituents since the program’s inception in 2003.
In a letter notifying OCCC of the accolade, NSA National CAE Program Manager Karen Leuschner said, “Your ability to meet the increasing demands of the program criteria will serve the nation well in contributing to the protection of the National Information Infrastructure. The National Cyber Strategy, September 2018, addresses the critical shortage of professionals with cybersecurity skills and highlights the importance of higher education as a solution to defending America’s cyberspace. A highly skilled cybersecurity workforce is a strategic national security advantage. The U.S. Government will continue to invest in and enhance programs that build the domestic talent pipeline, from primary through postsecondary education. Education is the key to promoting these ideals.”
The Cyber/Information Security program is housed under the Computer Science Department at OCCC. Student success is a high priority in the Computer Science Department as well as the Business and Information Technology (BIT) Division.
