Each semester, the Foundation awards scholarships to students through the generosity and thoughtfulness of donors. This semester we awarded $71,000 to 108 students! Impressive as that is, the real story is the impact of those scholarships. Consider what one student wrote in her scholarship application:
“I am a late bloomer when it has come to my education. I had children at a young age and did not see myself as someone who could go to college. OCCC has shown me that I can go to college even with kids in the home and that it is never too late to get an education.”
Every scholarship recipient represents a compelling story of hope and perseverance, and I want to thank the donors who make scholarships possible. Even at the most affordable college in town, the majority of our students require significant financial assistance. The work we do could not be possible without the support of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees. This year, four dedicated trustees completed their terms — Randy Thurman, Michael Ford, Derek Gill and Laura Ingram. We thank them for their service to our mission and will miss their institutional memory and wise counsel. We also welcome two new trustees – Don Nevard and Anthony Hendricks. Both are attorneys with exceptional professional accomplishments and deep connections to the community. Welcome to the team!
We are excited to welcome Dr. Mautra Jones, our new President. We have much to celebrate in 2022 as we mark the College’s 50 year of educational impact in and around Oklahoma City.
