OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Sept. 6, 2022) — The Foundation for Oklahoma City Community College has received a $25,000 grant from the Oklahoma City Community Foundation through its Culture & Community iFund grant program. The grant will assist in funding Oklahoma City’s Fiestas Patrias, an annual festival that honors Hispanic culture.
“We are so pleased to receive this grant from the Oklahoma City Community Foundation,” says Dr. Mautra Staley Jones, OCCC President. “These funds will help us celebrate the beautiful and dynamic traditions of the growing Hispanic community in Oklahoma City. We are proud to welcome the Fiestas Patrias festival to our college, which has long played an important role in bringing unique educational opportunities to the community.”
The Oklahoma City Fiestas Patrias Festival has been one of the largest celebrations of Hispanic culture in Oklahoma, attracting thousands of people from all over the world to partake in a day of food, live music, folkloric dancing, activities for families, official patrimony ceremonies and the crowning of Miss Fiestas Patrias.
OCCC is hosting the festival for the first time this year on Sept. 18 from 1:00 to 10:30 p.m. It is open to the public and will kick off the institution’s 50th anniversary week-long celebration.
