OKLAHOMA CITY – More than 130 guests enjoyed cooler temperatures during the poolside Summer Party at the Edmond home of Mistie and Tony Arango Saturday, Aug. 3. The annual event supports the Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) Foundation, and guests wore breezy, summer-white attire and mingled poolside while enjoying food, drinks and live Cuban-themed music.
All proceeds from the Summer Party are used for scholarships and program support for the OCCC Students Connecting with Mentors for Success (SCMS) program for first-generation college students. The program originally connected male African-American students at OCCC with community leaders as mentors. This year the program expanded to include female African-American students and male and female Hispanic students. The program has been recognized several times with national awards for its innovation and impact.
The premier sponsor for the Summer Party was Love’s Travel Stops and Country Stores. Supporting sponsors included BancFirst, Hall Estill Attorneys at Law, Trane and First United Bank. Other sponsors included The Ann Lacy Foundation, Belmont Development, Echols & Associates, Finley & Cook, FM Energy Companies, Gene Rainbolt, INTEGRIS Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation, Michael and Rebecca Ford, Michael Brooks-Jimenez and Jessica Martinez-Brooks, OG&E, Streets LLC, The Brooks Clinic, Tinker Federal Credit Union, Tony and Mistie Arango, WEOKIE Federal Credit Union, COOP Ale Works, Randy Thurman, CFP®, CPA/PFS and Success Vodka.
The OCCC Foundation benefits, supports and enhances the programs at OCCC in order to have a transformative impact on the lives of students and the community. Last year the OCCC Foundation awarded 184 scholarships to students. For more information about the OCCC Foundation, visit www.occc.edu/foundation.
