Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) will present symphonic guitar master Pablo Sáinz Villegas Oct. 15 at the Bruce Owen Theater, 7777 S. May Ave.
Since his debut with the New York Philharmonic at Avery Fisher Hall of the Lincoln Center, Sáinz Villegas has played in more than 40 countries with orchestras such as the Philharmonic of Israel, the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the National Orchestra of Spain, establishing him as the benchmark against which all other symphonic guitarists are compared.
Sáinz Villegas has been acclaimed by the international press as successor to the iconic Andrés Segovia and an ambassador of Spanish culture in the world. Sáinz Villegas’ virtuosic playing, characterized by irresistible exuberance – as The New York Times put it – makes him one of the most acclaimed soloists by prestigious directors, orchestras and festivals. Sáinz Villegas has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York, Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow and the National Arts Center in Beijing.
A tireless promoter of development of the repertoire for Spanish classical guitar, Sáinz Villegas has garnered an impressive collection of more than 30 international awards. He also founded the philanthropic project Music Without Borders to promote cultural understanding.
The event is part of OCCC’s Cultural Arts Series, which celebrates diversity in the arts. Other planned performances in the series include the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble in April and Mariachi Divas de Cindy Shea in May.
