“Welcome to the Traffic Jam,†a new exhibit of paintings by Alexis Austin, is currently on display at the Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) Inasmuch Foundation Gallery located in the college’s Visual and Performing Arts Center.
“Welcome to the Traffic Jam,†as the name suggests, features a varied collection of the artist’s mixed media works on fabric. Thematically diverse, it offers a broad spectrum of paintings, ranging from abstract to more figurative renderings, all of which are comfortably embraced by Austin’s unique style and perspective.
The latest of the artist’s many group and solo exhibitions, “Welcome to the Traffic Jam†gives Austin the opportunity to display her wide-ranging techniques in a larger venue. Her work incorporates nontraditional textiles, each as a base for her paintings, but also as an integral part of her compositions.
Alexis Austin studied studio art at Oklahoma City University and fashion design at Columbia College in Chicago. In addition to her artwork, she is a professional photographer and personal chef.
“Welcome to the Traffic Jam†is curated by Helen Opper. Helen is an independent curator and art consultant based in Oklahoma City. She studied art history at UC Berkeley and earned her graduate degree in museum studies from New York University. Helen and Alexis have enjoyed working together on several exhibitions, of which “Welcome to the Traffic Jam†is the latest.
The exhibit is currently on display through Oct. 31, 2018, Monday through Friday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, please contact the Office of Cultural Programs at culturalprograms@occc.edu, or on 405-682-7576.
