Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) students are happy with their experience at the college. In a recent student satisfaction survey, 91 percent of OCCC students say they would again make OCCC their college choice if they had to do it over again—11 percent higher than the national average.
“The dedication of OCCC faculty and staff is clear in the results of this survey,” said OCCC President Paul Sechrist. “Over the years, we have worked hard to focus on the needs of our students. This survey tells us that we are going in the right direction.”
The college partnered with the higher education consultant group Ruffalo Noel Levitz to conduct the student satisfaction survey this past spring. OCCC was part of a nationwide group of more than 200 colleges participating in the survey. It measured 70 areas of student satisfaction. In every area, OCCC’s ratings were significantly higher compared to the national average.
The results also show that 67 percent of OCCC students indicate their experience at the college was better than they expected—13 percent higher than the national average.
When asked if they were satisfied with their experience at OCCC, 87 percent of students surveyed say they were satisfied.
Students also indicate that cost, financial aid and academic reputation are the top reasons to attend OCCC.
The top 10 areas of student satisfaction were: well-maintained campus, computer labs, campus safety, experiencing intellectual growth, good reputation in the community, library resources, variety of courses, sufficient number of study areas, bookstore staff and feeling welcome on campus.
OCCC serves more than 28,000 people each year. The college offers a full range of associate degree programs that prepare students to transfer to baccalaureate institutions while other degree and certificate programs prepare students for immediate employment in a variety of fields. At OCCC, students receive a quality education with small class sizes, dedicated teachers and leadership opportunities. Students can choose from more than 80 major fields of study and participate in any of the 40+ clubs and organizations and attend events such as the annual Arts Festival Oklahoma.
