Have you always dreamed of going to college? Are you interested in financial aid, but do not think you would qualify or do not know how to apply? Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) can help you take the first step by filing a Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application during Free College February.
Beginning Monday, Feb. 2, OCCC Recruitment and Admissions and Student Financial Support Services will offer assistance with completing FAFSA applications. This free service will meet throughout the month of February, every Monday, 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Keith Leftwich Memorial Library, Room 121, on OCCC campus at 7777 S. May Avenue.
Nationwide more than 40 percent of students who qualify for college financial assistance never apply, Jon Horinek, OCCC director of Recruitment and Admissions, explained.
“Far too many students never apply for Federal Student Aid because they either think the FAFSA is too complicated or they feel they won’t qualify,” Horinek said. “Nothing could be further from the truth. FAFSA is easier than ever and most students qualify for some form of assistance either through grants or low interest loans.”
The sessions are open to anyone interested in attending college. Federal aid is available for students of all ages; however, students under the age of 24 will have to provide tax information from their parent or guardian.
