Advance your payroll career while ensuring your organization’s payroll compliance with Oklahoma City Community College’s (OCCC) APA PayTrain College and University Program.
“We can all learn something new. Payroll is always changing—the law for example is always changing,” said Quita Tucker, CPP and member of the National American Payroll Association. “Some companies may not be able to provide the most current training. These classes will benefit even those who already work in a payroll department and may be set in their ways. You forget things. You may not know all the laws. This is a great refresher.”
PayTrain Fundamentals is ideal for new payroll professionals, those who support the payroll industry and those who are preparing for FPC certification. The course will teach fundamental payroll calculations and applications, providing students with the basic knowledge and skills required to maintain payroll compliance and prevent costly penalties. This course is a prerequisite for PayTrain Mastery.
PayTrain Mastery is a comprehensive course providing students with a solid understanding of advanced payroll topics necessary for payroll managers and supervisors. This course is ideal for experienced payroll professionals seeking compliance training, professional development and CPP certification preparation.
Topics of study will include: payroll concepts; paycheck calculations; fringe benefits; payroll reporting and employment taxes; record keeping and payroll practices; payroll accounting; and administration.

Tucker, with over 30 years of experience in payroll, will instruct both courses. Over the years, Tucker has worked with multi-state tax compliance and reporting, garnishments, accounting, data mining, time and attendance and human resource management.
“Payroll is a passion of mine. I want to help people really understand what payroll is and how it all comes together. I want my students to be prepared to go further in their job. I try to be very hands-on and help students understand why they got an answer right or wrong,” Tucker said.
Both courses will offer a multiple learning components including live instruction, printed workbooks and online components with interactive tools such as games, application exercises and tests.
