Prior to joining the OCCC community in the Fall of 2019, Don Russell spent six and a half years in Milwaukee, WI where he was a Founding Member of Cooperative Performance, a performance company that seeks to create new and innovative works. He served on their Board of Directors for seven years (four years as the Board Chair). Through Cooperative Performance, Professor Russell wrote, directed, and performed in many original and adapted interdisciplinary works. Before moving to Milwaukee, he spent nearly three years in Columbia, SC earning his MFA in Acting at the University of South Carolina. During his time there, he had the privilege of working and studying extensively with Master Teachers Robyn Hunt and Steve Pearson, Artistic Directors of the Pacific Performance Project/East and is now a member of Hunt and Pearson’s P3 Studio. Up until his acceptance at the University of South Carolina, Professor Russell had spent six years in Los Angeles, CA during which time he continued working on his craft, exploring film and television, and earning his MA in Theatre from California State University, Northridge. He also spent a year studying stage combat under Sword Masters Dan Speaker and Jan Bryant at the Academy of Theatrical Combat.
