Professor Canfield started her career in higher education in 2013. She has worked at several institutions across the Oklahoma City metro and in West Virginia, her home state. In 2011 Canfield earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Education and earned her teaching certificate for the State of West Virginia. While pursuing her B.A. degree at Glenville State University, she earned the most prestigious student award granted at graduation – the Student Leadership Award. After graduating, Canfield continued her education and earned a Master of Arts degree in English with a focus in Linguistics from Marshall University, also in West Virginia. Upon completion, Canfield accepted a full-time faculty position at a private college in Oklahoma. Since moving to Oklahoma, Professor Canfield has worked in both secondary education and higher education managing educational and social programs, as well as teaching. She currently holds certification for secondary education in Oklahoma from the state Department of Education but focuses her work in the community college setting. She joined OCCC full-time in the fall of 2023. Her favorite classes to teach are Introduction to Literature and American Literature, but she loves inspiring students in Composition I and Composition II just as much!
