OCCC Shield
In an effort to reinforce personal safety on campus using the latest technology, OCCC introduced OCCC Shield, a free safety app that enables students to reach OCCC Campus Police almost immediately from their smartphones.
The app, developed by 911 Cellular, not only connects the user to the campus police department, but also provides the user’s location through an internal positioning system or geographic locator.
The app also has several other safety features:
- iReports--allows users to send texts, photos and videos directly to OCCC Campus Police, and these reports can be made anonymously.
- Non-emergency services contacts--access to additional services offered by OCCC Campus Police such as vehicle unlock, vehicle jump-start, officer escort to and from the building and air for vehicle and bicycle tires.
- Friend Watch--a peer-to-peer safety check. It allows users to designate a group of friends to receive notifications if the user fails to check in after a certain period of time designated by the user..
- Personal Profile--allows users to store important medical information that will automatically be available if an emergency call is activated.
- EMBARK bus schedule
- Campus maps
Campus Alert Notification System (CAN)
At OCCC, our priority is the safety and security of our students, faculty, staff and community. CAN is a comprehensive alert notification system for all of our students and employees. This system is designed to quickly communicate information regarding emergency situations on campus and any campus closures that may be necessary.
As a current OCCC student or employee, your college email address already is included in the Campus Alert Notification system. To receive text messages, please ensure your current cellphone number is on file in the OCCC self-service portal. Alternate emails or additional contact information can be added to your profile through the OCCC Shield App.
