OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (March 7, 2023) —
On March 23, Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) will host a Jazz at Lincoln Center presents – Songs We Love in the Visual and Performing Arts Center at 7:30 pm. The concert will feature up-and-coming musicians and singers who have been identified as rising stars by JALC. Songs We Love is a celebration of the history of American jazz – and its future.
The event is part of OCCC’s ongoing commitment to providing cultural and educational experiences to the community. It is also an opportunity for students, faculty and staff to appreciate jazz music and explore its rich history.
Under the musical direction of trumpeter Riley Mulherkar, three guest vocalists will join the superb ensemble of musicians, combining their distinct talents and carrying the audience away through four decades of music. Beginning with the early blues and jazz of the 1920s and ending in the early 1950s, iconic singers to be explored include Ma Rainey, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland.
