Opera fans in Oklahoma will have the unique opportunity to hear artists from the Metropolitan Opera, when Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) presents The Metropolitan Opera Rising Stars Concert Series Thursday, Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the college’s Visual and Performing Arts Center (VPAC) Theater.
For more than 125 years, the Metropolitan Opera has been the artistic home of the greatest singers in the world, and has been the launching pad for opera stars of the future. Some of today’s leading artists got their first big break by winning the company’s national auditions, as members of the young artist program, or by catching the attention of Met talent scouts. Stephanie Blythe, Renée Fleming, Susan Graham, Deborah Voigt, Thomas Hampson, and Mariusz Kwiecien are just a few of the major artists to have come through the Met ranks.
Each concert features several young singers, accompanied by piano, in popular arias, duets, and ensembles by opera’s greatest composers. The concert series offers opera fans across North America the rare opportunity to experience remarkable artists just on the cusp of their promising careers.

Oklahoma City Community College opened the doors to the 1,049-seat Visual and Performing Arts Center Theater in early 2014. It features a large atrium with three-story high windows, state-of-the-art lighting and sound equipment and will allow the college to host larger Broadway-style touring productions. The Visual and Performing Arts Center also houses an art gallery and academic center featuring a rehearsal room, library, six classrooms, seven studios, seven labs and faculty offices.
