Oklahoma City Community College’s (OCCC) Professional Development Institute (PDI), a center of excellence for continuing education and workforce development, will offer an American Sign Language course in sign and conversational sign starting Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016.
The six-week, $69 course will include beginner sign and conversational sign instructed by Edith Daggs, a certified interpreter to the deaf since 1998. “ASL is the third most commonly used language in the United States, so it is a beneficial language to know,” Daggs said.
The course will also include deaf culture, etiquette and interactive activities for students through games and student interaction. Students will receive in-class materials such as handouts and worksheets to assist in the learning process.
“It’s a great opportunity for professionals to further their communication skills, for someone to learn another language or for family fun in an enjoyable class environment,” says PDI Director John Claybon.
