Veterans in the Oklahoma City metro will have access to the Department of Veterans Affairs Mobile Vet Center (MVC) at Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. The MVC provides nonmedical readjustment counseling and outreach to veterans and their families by addressing the social and economic dimensions of postwar needs.
In addition to the MVC, Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs (ODVA) veteran service officers will provide veterans and their families with the opportunity to file claims for service-connected injuries or illnesses, apply for VA pensions, and dependent and survivor benefits.
The event is free and open to all veterans and their families. The MVC will be located on the OCCC campus at 7777 South May Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK 73159. Visitors are encouraged to use the 74th Street entrance. The MVC will be set up outside of the Visual and Performing Arts Center Theater on the Northwest side of the campus. MVCs are among the VA’s premier front-line resources designed to interact with veterans in rural communities, at community events and on special occasions. As an integral part of the Vet Center system, MVCs offer veterans information on topics such as individual and group counseling, military sexual trauma, marital and family counseling, VA benefits and community education.
The Vet Center looks forward to providing an opportunity to engage in face-to-face dialog with a VA representative within the local community. At the foundation of the Vet Center Program is respect for the privacy of all veterans and family members, by maintaining all information in the strictest confidence. Staff will not communicate or transfer information to any third-party agency without the written consent of the veteran except in circumstances necessary to avert a crisis situation.
