OCCC) President Jerry Steward today announced his retirement, effective July 2, 2021. President Jerry Steward was selected as the 10th President of Oklahoma City Community College in 2015, after a long career with the college which included previous roles as Executive Vice President, General Counsel, other administrative positions, and as a faculty member who taught various political science classes. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Oklahoma and his law degree from the University of Oklahoma. He was in the private practice of law for 22 years.
“The events of 2020 have shown me many things…perhaps most importantly in my own life, the value of time and of family.†President Steward said in an announcement to faculty and staff. “After decades of service in both private and public sectors…I long to take the time with my family and friends that I have always wanted, and that will not be available forever.â€
President Steward currently serves on the board of directors of the State Chamber of Commerce of Oklahoma, Allied Arts, and the Oklahoma State Fair. He also serves on the Board of Commissioners of the Oklahoma City Housing Authority and the Board of Advisors of the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce. He is a former member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives, and has served the community through numerous civic and community organizations.
“It has been the honor of my life to serve as President of Oklahoma City Community College,†said President Steward. “OCCC has endured, and continues to endure, an unprecedented time in history, but we are flourishing, we are leading and we are setting the bar for how organizations should operate amid political, economic and financial uncertainty, and of course, amid this global pandemic.â€
Oklahoma City Community College enrolls over 17,000 students annually. Thousands more are served in non-credit classes and programs. The college has more than 60 fields of study and offers associate degrees, certifications and leadership opportunities.
