Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) will host 6 Guitars, a pitch-perfect blend of music, comedy, and characters, at the Visual and Performing Arts Center (VPAC) Theater Tuesday, April 9, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are still available at tickets.occc.edu or the OCCC Box Office.
In 6 Guitars, Chase Padgett portrays six different guitar-playing characters, each sharing their own style of music, including blues, jazz, rock, classical, folk, and country. Padgett is a musician, actor, writer, and improviser with 20 years of experience. He studied music at the University of Central Florida and learned improv at the SAK Comedy Lab in Orlando, Florida, where he later became a full ensemble member. In addition, Padgett has comedic actor experience at both Walt Disney World and Universal Studios.
In 2010, 6 Guitars premiered at the Orlando International Fringe Festival. During the 85-minute show, each of the characters, ranging from a 19-year-old rock prodigy to an 87-year-old bluesman, share their journey with music from discovery to mastery through songs and stories. The show is written by Padgett and Jay Hopkins. Hopkins has been directing, writing, acting, and improvising since 1988 and regards collaborating with Padgett to create 6 Guitars as one of the most rewarding experiences in his theatrical career.
6 Guitars is one of the top five highest grossing shows in the history of the Winnipeg Fringe Festival. The Winnipeg Press says the show, “earns applause no matter your musical taste.â€
