Biography

Dr. Steve Gibson was born and raised in Maryland and never thought he would move to Oklahoma when growing up. He graduated from the University of Virginia with a Biology degree, then attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia. At Penn, Dr. Gibson earned both an MD as well as a PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology. He then went to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore for residency training in Anesthesiology. At Hopkins, he also did lab research, worked as an attending physician, and finished a Fellowship in Cardiac Anesthesia. Answering an online job posting, Dr. Gibson came to the University of Oklahoma Medical Center for an interview and brought his wife. They discovered that this is a great place to live, work, play, and raise a family. Dr. Gibson is an assistant professor and attending physician of Anesthesiology at the OU College of Medicine and OU Medical Center. Along with clinical and teaching duties, he is also the faculty liaison to the anesthesia technicians/technologists and in charge of anesthesia equipment and supplies for the adult services. Dr. Gibson works out or runs almost every day and enjoys time with his family. He considers himself more an Okie than a Marylander these days, although he still roots for the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens.
